Sheggz Explains Why His Relationship With Bella Okagbue Ended
Segun Olusemo, popularly known as Sheggz and a former Big Brother Naija housemate, has spoken about the breakup between him and Bella Okagbue, whom he met and dated during their time on the reality television show.
Sheggz said his relationship with Bella officially ended in January 2026.
He disclosed this in a statement he posted on social media on Wednesday morning, while responding to allegations that he had cheated on Bella or behaved inappropriately towards her during their relationship.
According to Sheggz, he had deliberately avoided discussing the relationship publicly because of the respect he has for his family and his preference for keeping personal matters private.
He said, however, that he felt compelled to explain his side of the story after what he described as an attempt to damage his reputation and portray his character negatively.
He wrote:
“I have never spoken publicly on social media because of respect for my family, and it is not in my nature to do so. But after four years of working hard to build my life and my reputation, I feel it is right to clarify my position rather than allow anyone to damage my name or character.”
Sheggz also rejected claims that he was a person who engaged in abusive or inappropriate behaviour, stressing that his family, friendships, good character and faith were important aspects of his life.
He said:
“I am a man who values my family, my friends, my character and my faith. I am a brother and a friend to many people. I am not an abuser.”
Sheggz Denies Cheating on Bella
Addressing the circumstances surrounding the end of the relationship, Sheggz specifically denied cheating on Bella and maintained that he had been single since their relationship ended.
He said:
“To be clear, I did not cheat on Bella, and I have been single since January 2026. Our relationship ended in January 2026.”
The statement came amid public discussions surrounding the former couple and allegations about what may have contributed to the breakdown of their relationship.
Sheggz said that after their breakup, the two of them made attempts to repair their relationship and determine whether they could continue together.
However, he said issues surrounding trust and respect eventually made him realise that the relationship could not progress towards marriage.
According to him, the difficulties they encountered ultimately affected his confidence in their future together, despite the fact that he had previously hoped the relationship would lead to marriage.
Sheggz Reveals Health Challenges in 2025
Sheggz also opened up about what he described as an extremely difficult period in his life during 2025.
He said he spent a significant amount of time in and out of hospitals receiving medical treatment.
According to him, the experience was challenging, but he remained grateful to God for surviving what he went through.
He said:
“Most of 2025 was a very difficult period for me because I spent a lot of time in and out of hospitals. I am extremely grateful to God to be alive after everything I experienced.”
Sheggz said his health eventually improved while he was in England, after which he returned to Nigeria in October 2025.
He explained that during this period, he became aware of certain developments that caused him to reassess his relationship and its future.
Sheggz Had Planned for Marriage
Despite the difficulties that eventually brought the relationship to an end, Sheggz revealed that he had been serious about building a future with Bella.
He said he had even purchased an engagement ring because he genuinely believed their relationship could eventually lead to marriage.
He said:
“I wanted the relationship to work. I even bought a ring because I believed in the possibility of our future together.”
The revelation indicates that, despite the eventual breakup, Sheggz had at one point been committed to taking the relationship to the next level.
The couple had developed a strong public following after meeting during their time on Big Brother Naija, with their relationship attracting considerable attention from fans throughout and after the reality show.
Their eventual separation has consequently generated significant interest among followers who had watched their relationship develop over the years.
Sheggz Calls for Peace and Respect
Although the relationship has ended, Sheggz said he did not want the situation to turn into a public fight or become a source of continued bitterness on social media.
He appealed to both families and everyone involved to move forward with peace and respect.
He said that while he had chosen to explain his position, his intention was not to create further conflict or attack Bella publicly.
Instead, he said he wanted to set the record straight about his own actions and character while allowing both parties to move on with their lives.
In concluding his statement, Sheggz wished Bella well and expressed hope that both of them would eventually be able to move forward peacefully.
He said:
“I wish Bella nothing but the very best in life, and I hope that we can all move forward with grace in the end.”
