“I Was Forced to Say I Was Sick” — Wasilat Olalere Reveals What Happened After Oloolu Ritual Incident
Wasilat Olalere, a TikTok content creator based in Ibadan, has opened up about her experience following an incident connected to the Oloolu traditional ritual, saying some of the information circulating online does not fully represent what she claims happened.
Wasilat alleged that she was forced to record a video in which she said she had become sick following her encounter with the Oloolu tradition. However, she insisted that the statement was not true and that she was not suffering from any strange illness.
According to her account, she did not experience the kind of sickness described in the video she was allegedly forced to make. She specifically denied claims that she was bleeding or suffering from any unexplained medical condition.
How the Incident Began
Wasilat said the situation started after she recorded a video in an area where an Oloolu traditional ceremony was taking place.
She explained that she had recorded people who had gathered in the area, as well as Amotekun security vehicles that were present at the scene. According to her, she did not realise that the short video would eventually lead to a much bigger problem.
After uploading the video to TikTok, Wasilat said some people contacted her and demanded that she remove it from the platform.
She said she complied and deleted the video shortly after receiving the complaints. However, by that time, some individuals had already saved copies of the video and begun circulating them on social media.
The continued circulation of the video, according to Wasilat, eventually led to a confrontation at her workplace.
Wasilat Claims She Was Taken Away
Wasilat alleged that not long after the video was posted, some men arrived at her place of work.
She said the men intimidated her and took her away from the workplace despite attempts by some people around her to plead on her behalf.
According to her account, she was initially taken to the Agungun Police Station.
Wasilat said that after she was released from the police station, she believed the matter had been resolved. However, she alleged that the situation continued and that she was subsequently put into another vehicle and taken to Ode Aje.
She said that, upon arriving there, she was informed that certain traditional rituals had to be carried out in connection with the incident.
Alleged Pressure to Participate in Traditional Rituals
Wasilat alleged that she was pressured to comply with what some of the people involved wanted her to do.
She also claimed that her family was asked to provide certain items that were required for the traditional process. According to her, the items included a goat, red clothing and other materials.
She said the experience became particularly distressing because she felt she was not being given the freedom to decide for herself whether she wanted to participate in the rituals.
The TikTok creator said the situation became even more serious when she was allegedly instructed to make another video explaining that she had been sick since the time she encountered Oloolu.
“They Forced Me to Say I Was Sick”
Wasilat said she was forced to make a statement claiming that she was suffering from an illness and that blood was coming out of her body.
She strongly rejected the claim and said she was instructed to say something that did not reflect her actual condition.
She stated:
“They forced me to say I was sick, that blood was coming out of my body. But what they wanted me to say was not true. I was not sick, and there was no blood coming out of my body.”
Her allegation has raised questions about the circumstances surrounding the video and what happened to her after the original TikTok post was circulated.
Wasilat maintains that the statement about her alleged sickness should not be regarded as an accurate description of her condition because, according to her, she was pressured into making the video.
Allegation Involving N400,000
Wasilat also said that during the course of the incident, her husband was contacted.
She further alleged that individuals connected with the matter received about N400,000, which she said was spent after her family had been asked to purchase the materials required for the traditional rituals.
The allegation forms part of Wasilat's wider account of the events and her claim that she and her family were placed under pressure during the process.
However, the people responsible for overseeing the Oloolu tradition have presented a different version of events.
Oloolu Representatives Deny Forcing Her
Those overseeing the Oloolu tradition rejected Wasilat's allegations that she was forced to participate in the process.
According to their account, Wasilat was not compelled to do anything and the events that took place were carried out in accordance with their established traditional procedures.
They also denied allegations that she was beaten or physically harmed.
Their position is that Wasilat and the people who accompanied her followed the procedures put in place for resolving matters of that nature.
This directly contradicts Wasilat's account, in which she maintains that she was taken away against her will and pressured into participating in activities she did not freely choose.
Two Conflicting Accounts
The disagreement over what happened has now placed two significantly different accounts of the incident in the public domain.
Wasilat maintains that she was forced to participate in the process and was made to record a video claiming that she was sick and bleeding.
On the other hand, representatives of the Oloolu tradition maintain that there was no coercion and that the process was conducted according to their traditional practices.
At this stage, the two sides continue to present different versions of what happened, leaving members of the public to question the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The matter has attracted considerable discussion online, with many people debating the relationship between traditional practices, individual rights and personal safety.
Incident Sparks Wider Debate
Beyond Wasilat's personal experience, the controversy has also generated a broader discussion about the limits of traditional practices and the need to protect the rights of individuals.
Some members of the public have questioned whether a person should be pressured into participating in a traditional process against their wishes, while others have focused on the importance of respecting established cultural practices.
The incident has also highlighted the potential consequences of posting videos involving sensitive traditional activities on social media. What may initially appear to be a simple recording can quickly spread beyond the original location and attract reactions from people who were not present when the event took place.
For now, Wasilat continues to stand by her account of what happened.
Her central claim remains that she was pressured into making a video that portrayed her as being sick, despite her insistence that she was not suffering from such an illness.
“They forced me to say I was sick,” Wasilat maintains.
