KADUNA, Nigeria — October 24, 2026

President Bola Tinubu arrived in Kaduna on Saturday for the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign flag-off ahead of the 2027 general election, as heightened security measures and road restrictions disrupted movement across parts of the state capital.

Vice-President Kashim Shettima also arrived for the event, which brings together party leaders, governors, elected officials and supporters to mobilise backing for Tinubu's bid for a second term.

The campaign gathering is taking place at Ranchers Bees Stadium in Kaduna, with the ruling party expected to present its “Renewed Hope 2.0” campaign message and outline its case for another term in office.

The visit marks the beginning of the APC's planned nationwide campaign mobilisation, although the party's broader rally schedule remains subject to adjustment.

HEAVY SECURITY DEPLOYMENT AROUND KADUNA

Security personnel were deployed at major junctions, roundabouts and roads leading towards the rally venue ahead of the President's arrival.

Reports identified personnel from the Nigeria Police Force, Nigerian Army, Department of State Services, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Nigeria Immigration Service and the Kaduna State Vigilance Service among those deployed.

Some major roads were blocked or restricted to motorists, including routes around Muhammadu Buhari Way and Ahmadu Bello Way. The restrictions reportedly contributed to congestion, with some commuters and motorists stranded in affected areas.

The security measures were intended to protect the President, other political leaders and rally participants. However, the reported traffic disruption illustrates the wider impact that large political gatherings can have on residents who are not attending the event.

Authorities have not provided a comprehensive public assessment of the number of commuters affected or the total duration of the restrictions.

APC SEEKS TO CONSOLIDATE SUPPORT AHEAD OF 2027

The ruling party is using the Kaduna event to mobilise supporters and strengthen its political structures ahead of the presidential election scheduled for January 2027.

Party officials have described the campaign as an opportunity to communicate the administration's policies and achievements, while urging supporters to engage voters and expand grassroots mobilisation.

Before the presidential arrival, supporters staged a solidarity procession through parts of Kaduna, expressing support for Tinubu's re-election bid. Organisers said their mobilisation network included thousands of support groups across the country.

Those figures and expressions of support represent claims by campaign organisers; they do not independently establish the level of nationwide electoral support for the President.

The rally is part of a broader political contest in which parties will need to persuade voters through their records in office, policy proposals and responses to public concerns.

APC MAKES ALLEGATIONS ABOUT OPPOSITION DISINFORMATION

The APC Presidential Campaign Council accused former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) of attempting to undermine the Kaduna rally through misleading online material.

The party's spokesman, Dele Alake, alleged that false narratives and manipulated material were being circulated, including a purported letter claiming that the Kaduna State Government had released ₦2.3 trillion to host the event.

The allegation was made by the APC campaign organisation. The material and the alleged involvement of opposition figures were not independently established in the reports reviewed.

The claims underline the importance of verifying documents and online videos during the campaign period. Allegations of disinformation should be supported by evidence before responsibility is attributed to a particular political actor or organisation.

WHAT THE CAMPAIGN MUST DEMONSTRATE

The APC's campaign begins amid public debate over the administration's handling of the economy, security and public services. The rally provides a platform for the ruling party to defend its record and make its case for a second term.

The event itself does not establish how voters will respond at the ballot box. Electoral support will ultimately be determined through the voting process, not attendance at a campaign gathering.

For Kaduna residents, the immediate concern is also practical: how long road restrictions will remain in place and how effectively security arrangements can protect attendees while minimising disruption to everyday activities.

As the 2027 campaign gets under way, the key test for all political parties will be whether their promises, explanations and proposed policies give voters a clear basis for assessing their choices.
