RASHEEDAT AJIBADE EXPANDS HEALTH AND HYGIENE SUPPORT FOR OVER 600 GRASSROOTS FEMALE FOOTBALLERS

Super Falcons captain Rasheedat Ajibade is expanding her support for grassroots women's football through an initiative providing health, hygiene and personal-development education to young female footballers in Lagos.

The Rash Hygiene Hub, an initiative of the Rasheedat Ajibade Foundation, has now reached more than 600 young female footballers from different clubs across Lagos.

The programme combines the distribution of hygiene kits with practical education designed to help young players understand personal hygiene, nutrition, mental wellbeing and basic first aid.

The latest phase of the programme was held at the NYSC Orientation Camp in Iyana-Ipaja, where participants took part in educational sessions and a practical cardiopulmonary resuscitation demonstration.

BEYOND FOOTBALL TRAINING

The initiative reflects an approach to grassroots football development that goes beyond football skills.

Young players received information covering personal hygiene, nutrition, mental health and first aid, while trained facilitators also demonstrated CPR techniques.

The practical component was conducted with support from members of the Nigerian Red Cross Society and other project partners.

For young athletes, knowledge of first aid and emergency response can be useful both during football activities and in their communities.

The programme also addresses everyday challenges that can affect girls attempting to build careers in sport.

MORE THAN 600 PLAYERS REACHED

The Rash Hygiene Hub has completed three phases of its Lagos outreach programme.

More than 600 grassroots female footballers have benefited from the programme through participation in health education activities and the distribution of hygiene kits.

The foundation's organisers say the programme was created in response to challenges faced by young female footballers, particularly players from families struggling to meet basic needs.

For these players, access to basic hygiene products and accurate health information can have an impact on their confidence, wellbeing and ability to participate fully in sporting activities.

The programme therefore combines material support with education rather than focusing only on the distribution of products.

HEALTH EDUCATION AND SPORT

Grassroots football provides an important pathway for young Nigerian players hoping to progress into professional and national-team football.

However, developing athletes requires more than regular training and competition.

Nutrition, personal hygiene, injury prevention, mental wellbeing and knowledge of basic first aid can all contribute to a player's ability to remain active and healthy.

The Rash Hygiene Hub is attempting to incorporate those issues into grassroots football development.

The latest outreach also introduced participants to CPR through a practical demonstration, giving the young players an opportunity to see how emergency response techniques are performed rather than receiving only theoretical instruction.

AJIBADE'S GRASSROOTS FOCUS

Ajibade has previously supported young footballers through donations of football equipment and other forms of assistance.

The foundation's latest programme expands that support by addressing issues that can affect young female athletes outside the football pitch.

The initiative is particularly focused on girls who may have limited access to hygiene products and health education.

By taking the programme directly to grassroots football clubs and players, the organisers are able to combine sporting activities with information designed to support the wider wellbeing of participants.

PLANS TO EXPAND BEYOND LAGOS

The foundation has indicated that it wants to take the programme beyond Lagos.

The ambition is to develop the model gradually and extend the outreach to more grassroots female footballers in other parts of Nigeria.

Such an expansion would provide an opportunity to reach players who face similar challenges but have fewer resources available to them.

The foundation has said future stages will be developed systematically, with attention to identifying participating players and clubs, delivering the educational sessions and assessing the results.

IMPORTANCE FOR WOMEN'S FOOTBALL

Women's football in Nigeria continues to depend heavily on grassroots development to identify and nurture the next generation of players.

The Super Falcons remain one of the country's most prominent sporting teams, while Nigerian women continue to compete in professional leagues and clubs both domestically and internationally.

Initiatives aimed at supporting younger players can therefore contribute to the broader development of the women's game.

Providing health and hygiene education may also help address issues that are not always visible when attention is focused primarily on competition results.

For young girls pursuing football, having access to basic support can make the sporting environment more sustainable.

SUPPORTING THE NEXT GENERATION

The Rash Hygiene Hub's latest phase demonstrates how sports figures can use their platforms to address issues affecting athletes at the grassroots level.

More than 600 young footballers have now participated in the Lagos programme, with the latest phase adding practical first-aid and CPR education to the initiative's existing focus on hygiene, nutrition and mental health.

The foundation's plan to expand the programme beyond Lagos could bring the same model to additional communities if the necessary partnerships and resources are secured.

For the young players involved, the programme offers support that extends beyond their football development.

It provides knowledge and practical skills that can remain useful away from the pitch, while reinforcing the importance of health, confidence and personal wellbeing in the development of young athletes.

As Nigeria continues to develop women's football, programmes that combine sporting opportunities with wider support for young players could become an increasingly important part of grassroots development.
